Leaders in the Information Age
Leaders in the information age have an opportunity like never before, to communicate to their organizations in a direct and efficient manner. With the advent of the internet but more specifically with the rise of social media, leaders today have an effective method of 2-way communication.
Blogging, Electronic Newsletters, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn Groups and Facebook fan pages among other powerful tools allow top leaders, performing leaders and brand new learners the ability to receive and deliver content, learn and redistribute information. Additionally, because of mobile technology advancements in the last few years, these interactions can now all happen remotely. This means that everyone in the organization has the ability to receive the same exact information at the same exact time and with no distortion from the “telephone” effect.
A word of caution is that leaders must keep in mind that although technology is an easy way to communicate it must serve as a supplement to the foundation of face to face interactions and verbal conversations. It is said that “…techniques are many fundamentals are few,” and this statement applies not only for how leaders learn but also for how they communicate. The most effective leaders know how to appropriately combine new age tools with time proven principles.
